The guests for the evening were three eminent artists-with their own typical styles and forte’s. Milind Nayak, Jasu Rawal & Gurudas Shenoy.

These big names in Bangalore’s Art World interacted with the participants while giving then insight into how they can better themselves.

Milind Nayak attended our workshop on the 20th of October and painted an oil on canvas much to the delight of the participants. Milind also presented a documentary of his painting, during the course of the evening

This was truly an evening well spent. The three eminent artists were introduced to the guests, after which they mixed with the participants and shared their insight with the participants.

Milind Nayak is one artist who wants his paintings as close to reality as possible, for, he believes art should mirror reality. He is drawn by the vitality and exuberance of the nature. He wants to depict the glory of nature as he sees it, rather than wanting to alter its appearance. His trip to Vermont USA saw the start of an even more productive phase in his life, which resulted in a body of 40 paintings which he painting on camping trips on the spot.
Milind is an artist who is driven by his own tradition evolved through his own history. Milind has depicted his experience in the Capital in his book, ‘Parts of me’. The book is a compilation of his work over the years. It features photographs, drawings, poems along with scribbles from the eighties onwards. He slipped into photography between 1983 and 1993. His work with colour copiers led him to new possibilities. He had his first solo show of digital monoprints in 1996, which was a success.
Milind paints in all media- acrylics, oils on canvas, oil pastel, soft pastel and even drawings in pen and pencil. Nature is the predominant theme in most of his works. One notices the profusion of leaves in green, yellow and brown. There is an occasional painting in red, yellow and blue as well. Milind has won several awards and held several shows in India and abroad.

Gurudas Shenoy and Jasu Rawal have both done their Fine Arts from MS University, Baroda.

Gurudas is the son of the famous artist from Karnataka, G.S.Shenoy. He has participated in several art exhibitions & solo shows in India, including at the Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai and London, and has participated in deliberations in Paris, Milan, Prague, Venice & Rome.

It is beautiful to hear him relate his early education in his hometown flanked by the Arabian sea on one side and the Western Ghats on the other., There was always some festivity, some bright colours, music & dance-with the Bhoota Yakhshagana, Bayatala & Nagamandala which were performed here.

The celebration enlightened his senses-with the bright colours & festivity. He loved to swim in the blue waters of the Arabian sea and watch the sunset, when the light would touch the waters and come all the way to where he stood. What a play of colours and light he witnessed then!

Light and shadows play a major role in his paintings.Light plays a major role in his art, after years of watching the sky change hues, from brilliant chrome greem muted browns and a hint of yellow creating a dramatic pattern- a form of fluidity in the scene as it changed.

He loved painting earthscapes, and discovering the elements of nature through his painting. He worked with graphics, particularly woodcuts at first. He loved the challenge of taking an artwork and making it a part of a building, and thereby integrating art into lives, and not merely sideline it to a few collectors. This is how he got into the world of murals-for which he is much sought after today.

He works with murals with their varying textures, colours and materials like aluminium, wood , clay, then glass, fibreglass, copper, brass, ceramics and even steel and granite.

He has done murals for  B.E., Intel, Indial Oil Company, Ramaiah Hospital, and more recently ISRO Headquarters, and the latest Chandrayan Moon Mission.

Jasu Rawal is a renowned abstract artist and recipient of several state and national awards, He has held solo whows in Mumbai Art Society, Max Mueller Bhavan, Bangalore, Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai, Gallery Eric Baubet, Le Havre, France and in London.

He draws inspiration from his personal experience by using gentle forms from his memory. The use of texture through meticulous application of colours that render a  style unique to himself, He plays around with space while placing his objects voluntarily on simple but detailed background.

His careful and well balanced compositions in vivid colour combinations translate into a dreamy form on canvas., with mysterious shadows on surreal landscapes.
