Nirmala did her Post Graduation in Endocrinology from Delhi University. She has written a book entitled ‘Towards a new harmony with life (under the pen name of Nimo N. Menon), which has been distributed in India and abroad. She is a self taught artist and uses the medium of oil on canvas. Her latest is her series on Flamenco Dancers.
Nirmala has worked in well known Advertising Agencies in Bombay and Bangalore, handling Multinational Accounts. Nirmala worked as a consultant to a Pre-School in Whitefield , Bangalore Jan-Aug 2010 .She has worked as Manager, Fabindia, Whitefield, and pioneered the domestic marketing of Seafood in Bangalore, under the brand of Ocean Fresh. She has worked as a teacher in India and Nigeria, teaching Integrated Science, Maths and Creative Writing. During her tenure she has worked with children on debates, declamations, quizzes and plays. She has conducted workshops for children under the Banner of Creative Interaction for a number of years. This was primarily begun in order to give children an opportunity for creative self-expression and self-discovery. It included quizzes, theatre, book reading and reviews, hobby development, art and craft.
Most importantly, the children were introduced to pressing environmental concerns e.g., the harmful effects of non-eco friendly plastic bags, extinction of birds and animals, deforestation and global warming. Children learnt to harness their energies in a positive, creative and constructive way.
Nirmala has attended several management workshops and conducted market surveys.
