Art Connect Press Release:

The Bold Strokes Workshop ,Oct-Nov ’10

The  3rd Bold Strokes Workshop which was held between 17th Oct. & 31st Oct. ’10, was a tremendous success as was evident from some of the comments made by participants . In their words, ‘Different  Accomplished Artists have taught me many ways to see Art”, “The environment is friendly & nourishing, which makes many an artist bloom”, best of all, “No one to my knowledge has so perfectly implemented this concept to connect ‘Closet’ artists with Renowned Artists. A Brilliant Experience! The brushstokes I have learnt have liberated my skills and I can confidently apply colours to whatever I conceive in my world of Imagination”.

The attached pictures convey these sentiments-and more!

We had a diverse set of participants this time-with a lady who is a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of Fine Arts, University of Wales, a gentleman participant, who is a Knowledge Management Professional from Infosys, some art-enthusiastic home- makers  & some who have their own art schools-be it art for children or mosaic & block printing for adults.

In our definition-The Bold Strokes Workshop has been a truly remarkable journey, watching people let go of their inhibitions and entering into intense sessions with the canvas, easels, paints & charcoals as their sole companions-yet finding the right stimulation in working amidst others like themselves. Thank you all, for helping us keep this spirit alive!

We are grateful to Milind Nayak, for having come over to our workshop on the 20th of Oct and painting an artwork for us. This was a truly unbelievable experience for all of us.It is tough to imagine that Milind’s works of art are created with a palette knife. Milind never uses a paintbrush. “The knife is precise; It has a finality about the delivery of the stroke. Besides, it doesn’t leave marks or bristles.”
Watching Milind paint is an experience in itself!

The colours are slapped on. The palette knife goes to work as another of Milind’s intricate leaf filled paintings takes shape. We were indeed mesmerised.

We are also grateful to Rekha Rao, well known Contemporary artist, for having visited the workshop/gallery and giving her suggestions in order to guide the participants and help them reach their true potential.

The workshop was covered by the News 9 TV Channel, Bangalore.

We are very grateful to the award winning artists who have helped us conduct the workshops-4 of them from Chennai and two from Bangalore.

Manoharan Natarajan, our first artist in this workshop, who is a natural as is evident by the casual strokes he makes using charcoals. He works with mixed media, comprising water colours, dry pastels & charcoals, as well as oils. An MFA and a senior artist, who till recenty was the Principal of the Government Fine Arts College, Chennai, Manoharan captures the rural life of Tamil Nadu in all its rustic charm and simplicity.

V.P.Gopi an MFA from Chennai, is proficient in Acrylic and I have personally invested in his art at the Chitrasante early this year. His work will tell you more about him-he is very, very good indeed!

R.Raghu, also from Chennai works with water colours- & his painstaking use of wash technique and layer application was very inspiring.

B.Venkatesan, a self taught artist from Chennai , was proficient in oils & brilliant in his application of darker/lighter skin tones, and painting in Sepia colours. We especially appreciate the efforts he takes to give a realistic, photographic quality to his paintings.

And then from our very own Bangalore, V.G.Venugopal with his brilliant use of light and darker shades as contrasts in his charcoal sketches, and Srividya’s typical style in water colours.

A separate press release will be sent with pictures taken at The Bold Strokes Gallery’s Exhibition, held on 2nd Nov.’10.
