A Summary of Events of The Art Connect Initiative to-date

Hello!
We are pleased to inform you that The Art Connect Initiative is back again…this time with focus on Bold Strokes-the Art Workshop. Art Connect was begun in June/July 2009 with a series of workshops in the field of Art, Writing & Theatre .
You may recall, the second Bold Strokes Workshop (Nov 30th – Dec 10th 2009 ) was a tremendous success with the participants giving rave reviews on the inspiring Outdoor Environment, the choice of Artists, the dedication & personalised attention from the Art Connect Team, the peaceful, surreal atmosphere which gave them the ‘close to nature’ feeling, all of which helped bring out the talents they never knew they possessed.
The established artists who conducted the workshop said that they felt re-inspired and were able to bring out their best, long after the workshop. Reputed Contemporary artists like Bharathi Sagar, Anuradha Nalapat & TM Azis visited the workshop/gallery and gave their valuable suggestions. The event drew the attention of News 9 Bangalore.
For us, at Art Connect, this has been a truly remarkable journey, watching people let go of their inhibitions and enter into intense sessions with the canvas, easels, paints & charcoals as their sole companions-yet finding the right stimulation to work amidst others like themselves.
We are very grateful to the established award winning artists who have helped us conduct this Workshop-including R.Sheelvant, G. Jagadish, Dhanaraj Kheezara, Shivakumar Gadiga , Leila Allameh & Muniyappa.
Our Vision Statement:
Art Connect strives to bring together professional artists, accomplished writers and well known theatre personalities to help aspiring artists exhibit their latent artistic talents, aspiring writers remove their writers block and theatre aspirants unleash their natural performing abilities. It provides them with ample opportunity to interact with and showcase their creative abilities to people proficient enough to guide them to reach their true potential.

The Inauguration of the Bold Strokes Gallery was well attended & the highlight of the evening was the impromptu charcoal on canvas done by JMS Mani, much to the delight of the audience, and a AV Presentation entitled ‘KK Hebbar-an Inner Voice by Rajani Prasanna, an Art Historian, Consultant and Educationist of repute. She has been Professor at JJ School of Arts, Univ of Wisconsin, Milwaukee and Visiting Prof at Karnataka Chitrakala Parishad & Shrishti School of Design.

Rajani is the daughter of the late KK Hebbar, renowned artist, and the sister of Rekha Rao, well known Contemporary Indian artist who was also expected to be here for this event but had to leave for Mumbai due to an emergency.

“The historical location of Badami, as well as the innocence of the people there, who I find very hardworking and honest in all their ways, inspire me to capture their simplicity through my paintings.” These are the words of Sri JMS Mani. These words describe with simplicity the person JMS Mani-who is aclaimed worldwide for his Badami Series, with their rustic Dravidian features, bold brush strokes, minimalistic gestures but with dramatic results-which gives it that Impressionist touch. He is grateful to his mentor , the late RM Haripad who started the Ken School of Art, where he later took over charge as the Principal till very recently.

The Bold Strokes Gallery was formally inaugurated by JMS Mani & Rajani Prasanna. The Paintings & Charcoals done by the artists, including the demo paintings which were done with true passion, were on display at the gallery as well as the open spaces of the garden, which provided a stimulating ambience for an evening well spent.
Taking you further back, in June/July 2009, ‘The Art Connect Initiative’ began with a series of workshops in the field of Art, Writing & Theatre .We at Art Connect are truly amazed at the extent to which we have been able to contribute to helping people in their journey towards self discovery! We have successfully showcased their works of art, writings and theatrical abilities, at the ‘Art Connect Event’. Art was exhibited and interpreted by the writers, and the mood in which some of the paintings were done was also depicted in the play-an appeal for peace in a desperate, achievement oriented world. The surreal surroundings proved to be an add-on factor for enhancing the creativity.
Artists par Excellence in the field of Art, Writing & Theatre including Yusuf Arakkal, C.F.John, Rekha Rao, Jija Hari Singh (founder:Art Manthram) Shirley Mathew, Sara Arrakal, Anuradha Nalapat, Chippy Gangjee, Pritham Koilpillai, Ashwin Mathew were very gracious in attending events, and their suggestions and contribution to our Initiative were invaluable.
Self taught artists often need an apt avenue to be able to express themselves and some encouragement, to be able to create commendable pieces of Artwork. The Bold Stokes mini-Gallery was therefore begun to promote Art which comes from the easels of talented young artists who have rediscovered their skills at our workshops. Most importantly, we showcase art by award-winning artists who have helped us conduct these workshops and helped us build our Art Collection.
The proceeds from the sales of these paintings will go towards further promoting Art. The plans are to construct a new Gallery cum Art Library/Coffee Counter-where like minded Creative People can meet to read & discuss Art, Literature,Music & Theatre. All this can only happen with your support & encouragement; help us make Art Connect a success, yet again!
Best regards
